Which day suits which couple

Three questions sort it out. Do you want the day to yourselves, or are you happy to share a boat? Are you up for a 3 am alarm or a long day at sea? And which base are you sleeping in, Ubud or the coast?

"Private" on these listings usually means your own car and guide. The temples, waterfalls and the kecak stay public places. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before applies to every tour in this table.

Before you book

A villa, and four good days out.

Search for a Bali honeymoon tour and you mostly find travel agencies selling flights and hotel nights as a package. Nobody sells the honeymoon itself as a tour. What you can book is the part that makes the trip: a handful of days away from the pool, each one built around a place. The reef at Nusa Penida. The terraces and water temples around Ubud. A cliff at sunset.

The word to read carefully is private. On most listings it means your own car and a driver-guide who waits for you. It does not mean an empty temple or a show for two: Tirta Empul is busy by mid-morning and the kecak at Uluwatu plays to a full amphitheatre. A few things here really are just for two, like the koi boat at Kamandalu and the couple's room at the riverside spa. Everything else is shared with the island, and that is fine once you expect it.

6 pm

Sunset in Bali, give or take half an hour, in every month of the year. The island sits about eight degrees south of the equator, so the days barely change length.

01

Where are the tours?

Around Ubud in the hills, on the Bukit peninsula in the south and on Nusa Penida, a fast-boat ride from Sanur.

02

Do we need a car?

No. Most tours here pick you up at your hotel, and a car with a driver covers the gaps.

03

Is it all private?

No. Cars and guides often are; boats, shows and dinners are usually shared. Each card says which.

04

Who should skip a busy week?

Couples who mostly want rest. Two days out and a spa may be plenty, and the traffic will thank you.

Seasons, getting around, the paperwork and what to wear: one tab each.

  • April to October: the dry season. August is the driest month on the Denpasar records.
  • May, June, September and October: our pick. Dry days, and fewer people than July and August.
  • November to March: the wet season, with January the wettest. Mornings are often clear; the rain comes in heavy bursts.
  • Nyepi: the Day of Silence closes the whole island and the airport for a day. In 2027 it falls on 9 March.
  • On a tour: most tours here include hotel pickup and drop-off in the south and around Ubud.
  • With a driver: a private car for the day is the island's normal way to travel. The driver waits at each stop.
  • To Nusa Penida: fast boats from Sanur take about 30 to 45 minutes. The roads on the island are bumpy.
  • Distances: short on the map, long in traffic. Count about an hour between the south and Ubud.
  • Passport: valid for at least six months from the day you arrive.
  • Visa: many nationalities can use a visa on arrival or apply online for an e-VOA. Check yours on the official immigration site.
  • All Indonesia card: a free digital arrival card for immigration, customs and health, filled in within 72 hours before landing.
  • Bali levy: paid once per trip by every foreign tourist, cashless, ideally online on the official Love Bali site.
  • Temples ask for covered shoulders and knees, plus a sarong and a sash. Uluwatu lends them at the gate.
  • Swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen and a towel for Tirta Empul if you join the purification ritual.
  • A light jacket for a Mount Batur sunrise. It is cold at dawn on the volcano.
  • Shoes with grip for waterfalls: the steps are steep and wet.

Where it happens

Where the days begin

Pickup at your hotel, mostly

Typical starts: your hotel in the south or around Ubud; Sanur beach for the Nusa Penida boats

Bali's only airport sits in the south, between Kuta and Jimbaran. The cliffs of Uluwatu are south of it on the Bukit peninsula, Seminyak and Canggu along the west coast, Sanur on the east coast with the boats to Nusa Penida, and Ubud an hour or more inland. The tours here pick you up in those areas; check the listing if you are staying further out, in Amed or the north.

  • Airport to Ubud: about an hour, often longer in traffic
  • Sanur to Nusa Penida: 30 to 45 minutes by fast boat
  • Ubud to Mount Batur: about 80 minutes by car before dawn

Everything else worth knowing

Timing, what guests wish they had known, temple manners and the fine print.

  • Waterfalls and temples: go early. Tirta Empul and Kanto Lampo fill up by mid-morning.
  • Mount Batur: pickup around 3 am for the sunrise. Plan an empty afternoon and an early night.
  • Uluwatu: arrive before 5 pm for the temple paths, then take your seats for the 6 pm kecak.
  • Fireflies: dusk on a dark night. A bright full moon makes them harder to see.
  • Put the long days early in the trip and the spa near the end. Jet lag and a 3 am alarm do not mix well with a flight home.
  • Keep sunglasses and phones in a closed bag at Uluwatu. The monkeys are quick.
  • On Nusa Penida, take seasickness tablets before the boat, not after.
  • A private driver for a free day is often better value for your time than a fixed tour.
  • Ask for the evening session on the koi boat: the pond is lit after dark.
  • Dress: sarong and sash in every temple, shoulders covered.
  • Offerings: the small palm-leaf baskets on pavements are offerings. Step around them.
  • Shrines: do not climb on walls or shrines for a photo, and keep your head lower than the priest during a ceremony.
  • Water rituals: at Tirta Empul, follow the order of the spouts your guide shows you, and skip the ones they tell you to skip.
  • Every tour on this page cancels free up to 24 hours before.
  • Boats can be moved by the operator when the sea is rough, with a new date or a refund.
  • After heavy rain the waterfalls run brown and the guides may switch stops.
  • Most tours here are not suitable for wheelchair users, and the snorkel day needs basic swimming.

The guide

Bali honeymoon tours, explained

Every Bali honeymoon looks the same on the booking sites: a villa pool, a swing over the jungle, a candlelit table. Here is how to plan the days around it.

There is no honeymoon tour, and that is good news

The packages you see quoted for a Bali honeymoon are mostly flights and hotel nights with a couple of transfers added. They are bundles, not tours. On GetYourGuide you will not find one either. You find single days, and those days are where the trip is made or lost. Pick three or four that suit you, leave the rest of the week empty, and you will come home rested. Pick seven and you will spend your honeymoon in the back of a car.

The island is not big, but it is slow. The airport is in the south, Ubud is an hour or more inland in normal traffic, and Mount Batur is about 80 minutes further north. That is why most couples split the stay: a few nights in or near Ubud for the hills, a few on the coast for the sea. Every tour on this site picks up in one of those two areas.

The terraces around Ubud are working rice fields, watered by the old subak system.

What private really means

Read "private" on a Bali listing and picture a car, not an empty island. The Ubud day here is private in that sense: your own driver-guide, your own pace, your own stops. The temple and the waterfalls are shared with everyone else who woke up early. The Uluwatu sunset is the same. The car is yours; the kecak is performed for a full amphitheatre at 6 pm.

A few things really are for two. The koi boat at Kamandalu takes one couple per boat. The riverside spa offers a couple's room. The dinner cruise is shared, but capped at seven couples. The Nusa Penida day is the one to check closely: its listing describes a shared boat of up to 13 people with a private upgrade, so look at the option you select.

The honest small print: manta rays are wild animals. The Nusa Penida tour visits the bays where they feed, but its own listing says sightings cannot be guaranteed, and you need to be able to swim. If one of you is nervous in open water, book the sunrise jeep or the fireflies instead.

Plan the days around the clock

Bali sits about eight degrees south of the equator, so the sun rises around 6 am and sets around 6 pm in every month. Build around that. Mount Batur means a pickup around 3 am. Temples and waterfalls are best before ten. Uluwatu is an afternoon-into-evening trip. Fireflies come out at dusk, and they show better on dark nights than under a full moon.

Uluwatu at sunset: arrive early to walk the cliff paths before the show.

When to go

The dry season runs from about April to October and the wet season from November to March, with January the wettest month. May, June, September and October give you dry weather without the busiest weeks. In the wet months, mornings are often clear and the rain comes in heavy bursts later in the day, so the early tours still work. Check one date above all: Nyepi, the Day of Silence, when the whole island stays indoors and the airport closes for a day. In 2027 it is 9 March.

FAQ

Questions before you book

Straight answers to what couples ask most about a honeymoon in Bali.

Is Bali worth it for a honeymoon?

Yes, if you want more than a beach. Bali gives you temples, rice terraces, volcano sunrises and reefs within a few hours of each other, plus villas with their own pools. The catch is traffic: plan one or two bases rather than moving every night. The itinerary guide shows how.

How many days do you need in Bali for a honeymoon?

Seven to ten nights is the comfortable range. It covers three or four days out, a few slow days at the pool and two bases, usually Ubud and the coast. Fewer than five nights and the airport transfers eat a real share of the trip.

Which month is best for a honeymoon in Bali?

May, June, September and October: dry season, with fewer crowds than July and August. January and February are the wettest months. Avoid landing on Nyepi, the Day of Silence, when the airport closes for a whole day; in 2027 that is 9 March. See the month-by-month guide.

Where is the best place to stay in Bali for a honeymoon?

Most couples split the trip: three or four nights in or around Ubud for the jungle and the culture, then the Bukit peninsula (Uluwatu, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua) for cliffs and sunsets. Seminyak suits couples who want restaurants and bars on foot. Compare them in where to stay.

Is Bali or the Maldives better for a honeymoon?

They are different trips. The Maldives is one resort on one island: privacy, water villas and very little to do beyond the reef. Bali is a full island with culture and food, and you move around more. Bali, the Maldives or Thailand sets them side by side.

Is Thailand or Bali better for a honeymoon?

Thailand has more islands to hop between and livelier nightlife; Bali has the temples, the terraces and the villa culture, all on one island. If you want a single base with day trips, Bali is simpler.

What are the most romantic things to do in Bali?
Is Bali safe for a honeymoon?

Bali is a well-travelled island and most trips go smoothly. The U.S. State Department rates Indonesia as a whole at Level 2, "exercise increased caution", and keeps its do-not-travel warning for two provinces of Papua, not Bali. The everyday risks are traffic, scooters and the monkeys at Uluwatu. More in the safety guide.

What is a red zone in Bali?

A land-use zone, not a danger area. On Bali's spatial plans the red zone (zona merah) is for commercial use such as shops and offices; pink is tourism, yellow housing and green farmland. It matters to people buying land, not to visitors.

Can I wear red in Bali?

Yes. There is no rule about colours. Temples ask for covered shoulders and knees, a sarong and a sash; Uluwatu lends them at the gate.

Do we need to pay anything before arriving in Bali?

Foreign tourists pay the Bali levy once per trip, cashless, ideally online through the official Love Bali site. You also fill in the free All Indonesia arrival card within 72 hours before you land. The arrival rules post walks through both.

Can we cancel a tour if it rains?

Every tour on this site cancels for a full refund up to 24 hours before the start. Boat trips can also be moved by the operator when the sea is rough, with a new date or a refund.
